Our client is a high-growth, open-source organization building foundational browser infrastructure for AI agents and applications. Their platform enables developers to ship products that interact seamlessly with the web via a high-performance Sessions API. After experiencing 50x growth in 2025 and serving millions of sessions monthly, our client is expanding its talent-dense founding team to shape the future of internet interaction.

The organization is seeking a Member of Technical Staff (Infrastructure) / Senior Distributed Systems Engineer to build and scale the systems powering millions of browser sessions. This role involves tackling complex challenges in VM-level performance, global orchestration, multi-tenant isolation, and kernel-level debugging. The ideal candidate possesses deep systems knowledge, a bias for action, and the ability to ship across the full stack while maintaining a primary focus on robust, scalable infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Global Orchestration: Design and implement globally distributed VM orchestration systems with sub-second startup times and intelligent scheduling.
  • Isolation Architecture: Develop multi-tenant isolation strategies for running untrusted code at scale, ensuring high security and performance.
  • Kernel-Level Observability: Utilize eBPF tracing, distributed profiling, and time-travel debugging to maintain system health.
  • High-Performance Networking: Manage anycast routing, cross-region failover, and kernel bypass to optimize network reliability.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Architect multi-cloud deployment strategies using Pulumi across AWS, GCP, Azure, and customer VPCs.
  • Developer Primitives: Build reliable browser automation tools and contribute to the organization’s open-source ecosystem.
  • System Design: Take ownership of architectural decisions and end-to-end outcomes, moving from high-level design to production-ready code.

Requirements

  • Professional Experience: 5+ years of experience operating distributed systems, handling thousands of requests per second in high-stakes production environments.
  • Linux Expertise: Deep knowledge of Linux internals, including kernel debugging, eBPF, syscall optimization, cgroup v2, and NUMA scheduling.
  • Infrastructure Fundamentals: Battle-tested understanding of resource isolation, multi-tenancy, and security boundaries.
  • Networking Knowledge: Strong fundamentals in network engineering with a proven ability to debug production packet loss and latency issues.
  • Preferred Skills: Direct contributions to the Linux kernel, hypervisors (QEMU/KVM), or core infrastructure projects.
  • Product Mindset: Experience shipping developer-facing infrastructure products; an "ex-founder" or early-stage startup mentality is highly valued.

Technical Stack Proficiency:

  • Infrastructure: Kubernetes, Nomad, Firecracker VMs, Pulumi, Go, Docker.
  • Backend/Performance: Rust, Node.js, Fastify, NATS, PostgreSQL, Redis.
  • Observability: Grafana, Loki, Axiom, distributed tracing.

The Culture

Our client operates as a small, highly specialized team of four building foundational infrastructure that modern AI companies depend on. Within this environment, every individual writes code, debugs production, and owns outcomes from start to finish. The platform’s 50x growth in 2025 was achieved purely through word-of-mouth because the product works.

The team moves fast. There are intense periods during launches and incidents—as is the nature of infrastructure—and our client expects high levels of autonomy, technical depth, and output. This is a workspace designed for engineers who thrive when given significant responsibility and the freedom to solve deeply technical problems without layers of bureaucracy.

Benefits

  • Founding Equity: Significant equity stake as one of the first ten employees (0.25% – 1%).
  • Competitive Salary: Annual compensation range of CA$190,000 – CA$280,000.
  • Comprehensive Coverage: Health, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and their family.
  • Equipment & Wellness: Brand-new professional laptop setup and gym membership subsidies.
  • Team Culture: Regular team events, off-sites, and a high-autonomy environment where engineering decisions have a direct impact on innovative AI companies.

Interview Process

  1. Initial Screen: A 30-minute introductory interview with the Co-Founder.
  2. Take-Home Assessment: A practical technical exercise to demonstrate core competency.
  3. System Design Interview: A deep-dive session with the CTO.
  4. Coding Interview: A technical assignment and review with a Founding Engineer.
  5. Final Stage: A Work Trial (depending on availability) to experience the team's workflow firsthand.
