Compensation: $120K - $135K 


We are hiring on behalf of our client who is a premier infrastructure provider in the Web3 ecosystem, maintaining the connectivity layer that enables secure communication between thousands of applications and millions of end-users globally. With substantial backing from top-tier venture capital firms, the organization is currently scaling its dedicated payments division. This initiative focuses on an end-to-end crypto and stablecoin payment method integrated with major global commerce platforms and tens of millions of point-of-sale terminals.


The Senior Backend Engineer will join the payments engineering team to take ownership of complex problem spaces, including payment orchestration, merchant APIs, settlement infrastructure, and internal business systems. This role is designed for an experienced individual contributor who excels in designing APIs, building production-grade services, and managing cloud-native infrastructure. The engineering culture heavily emphasizes the effective use of AI-assisted coding tools combined with rigorous human review to maintain high velocity and quality.


Key Responsibilities

Backend Service Design & Delivery

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services including payment flows, data pipelines, and merchant-facing APIs.
  • Author comprehensive technical design documents and lead architectural reviews for major system components.
  • Ensure all code meets production-quality standards with robust testing, detailed documentation, and sophisticated error handling.

Ownership & Operations

  • Manage the full lifecycle of services from initial implementation and testing to deployment and ongoing monitoring.
  • Provisions and manages infrastructure utilizing AWS and Terraform, ensuring services are scalable and secure.
  • Implement deep observability—including logging, metrics, and tracing—to meet the reliability requirements of a global financial system.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response efforts to drive long-term system resilience.

Collaboration & Engineering Culture

  • Work closely with cross-functional stakeholders in Product, Finance, Legal, and Operations to translate business requirements into technical implementations.
  • Engage in a modern code review culture that incorporates automated AI agent reviews and collaborative human feedback.
  • Contribute to the evolution of engineering standards and team processes to support rapid scaling.


Requirements

  • Proven Senior Experience: Extensive background in designing, shipping, and operating production-grade backend services at scale.
  • Architectural Expertise: Strong skills in API and system design, with the ability to navigate ambiguous problem spaces and make reasoned trade-offs.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Professional experience with AWS and managed services; proficiency in managing infrastructure as code (Terraform or equivalent).
  • Technical Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-engineering stakeholders.
  • AI Literacy: Demonstrated ability to use AI tools effectively within a daily engineering workflow to enhance productivity and code quality.
  • Language Proficiency: While the primary stack is Rust and TypeScript, the client values a strong background in systems languages and a high degree of adaptability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with financial infrastructure, payment orchestration, or settlement systems.
  • Background in building developer-facing APIs or internal business tooling.
  • Familiarity with the Web3 landscape, including wallets, stablecoins, and on-chain settlement patterns.

  3. Technical Assessment:
  • System Design (1 hour): Focus on distributed systems, database management, and architectural decisions.
  • Live Coding (45 minutes): Problem-solving session in the candidate’s preferred language, prioritizing logic and thought process.
  1. Final Review: Interviews with senior engineering leadership to assess ownership mindset and cultural alignment.
