A high-growth, YC-backed startup is seeking a Founding GTM Engineer to join the core team in San Francisco. This organization focuses on building essential software that enables elite engineering teams to accelerate their workflows. Having achieved consistent double-digit month-over-month revenue growth and secured a $4.2M seed round, our client is now scaling its commercial operations.

This role represents a rare opportunity to join a ground-floor venture and directly influence how millions of engineers and technical leaders manage their work. The Founding GTM Engineer will work alongside a CEO who has previously scaled sales teams from $0 to $30M in ARR and a CTO who served as a founding engineer at a successful venture. The ideal candidate possesses a rare blend of deep technical proficiency and a strong commercial instinct.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pipeline Generation: Execute multi-channel strategies across sales, marketing, and systems to build and maintain a robust sales pipeline.
  • Process Automation: Partner with the founding and engineering teams to automate the sales and onboarding lifecycle, ensuring a frictionless customer experience.
  • Technical Asset Creation: Develop high-impact technical enablement materials, including product demos, reference architectures, integration guides, and technical documentation to accelerate the sales cycle.
  • Strategic Iteration: Help define and refine outbound strategies, pricing models, expansion playbooks, and internal systems from the ground up.
  • Cross-Functional Agility: Adapt to the shifting needs of an early-stage environment, transitioning between high-level logo hunting and internal system design as required.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Software Engineering Background: Experience writing production-grade code with a deep understanding of modern development workflows, CI/CD, and the SDLC.
  • Exceptional Communication: The ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both individual contributors and C-suite executives.
  • Operational Speed: A self-motivated profile that thrives in ambiguity and is wired for rapid execution.
  • Entrepreneurial Mindset: A strong bias toward action and the ability to build scalable processes from scratch.
  • Eligibility: Must be a US Citizen or hold a valid US work visa.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience selling developer tools, AI/ML platforms, or infrastructure software.
  • Prior experience at a Seed to Series C startup, particularly within a solutions engineering or founding hire capacity.
  • A background as a former founder or early-stage operator.

Benefits

  • Competitive Compensation: $100,000 – $140,000 base salary.
  • Equity Stake: 0.01% – 0.10% equity ownership.
  • Mentorship: Direct collaboration with experienced founders who have a proven track record of scaling startups.
  • Growth Potential: Significant career progression opportunities as an early member of a high-velocity team.
  • Location: Based in the primary tech hub of San Francisco, CA.

Interview Process

  1. Initial Screen: 15-minute introductory call.
  2. Executive Interview: One-hour deep dive with the CEO.
  3. Technical Interview: 30-minute session with the CTO.
  4. Due Diligence: Two professional reference calls.
  5. Practical Evaluation: A 3-5 day paid work trial to ensure mutual alignment.
