Our client is a high-growth, YC-backed startup based in San Francisco that is developing the definitive platform for understanding and improving engineering team dynamics. By leveraging modern AI, the organization provides an accurate and actionable view of productivity, impact, and collaboration—moving beyond traditional vanity metrics to focus on better engineering outcomes.

Having secured a $4.2M seed round from top-tier investors, our client has delivered consistent double-digit month-over-month revenue growth and is now looking to expand the core team. As a Founding Product Engineer, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in defining both the product direction and the technical foundation of the company. This is a rare opportunity to join at the ground floor and influence how millions of engineers and leaders understand their work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer-Centric Development: Engage directly with customers to understand pain points and translate feedback into high-impact features.
  • Full-Stack Implementation: Own the end-to-end development of new features, including writing backend logic, developing frontend interfaces, and provisioning necessary infrastructure.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and execute both rapid, "hacky" fixes for immediate bugs and robust, long-term architectural solutions to eliminate future debt.
  • Product Strategy: Collaborate with the founders to design and plan potential solutions that align with the company's mission of rethinking engineering output from first principles.
  • Iteration: Release features rapidly and collect user feedback to drive continuous product improvement.

Core Competencies

  • Technical Excellence: A formidable engineering mindset with a "stop at nothing" approach to accomplishing goals. The organization values the "slope" of growth and potential over a specific set of current skills.
  • Pragmatism: The ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced startup environment, distinguishing between "fires" that need immediate attention and those that can wait.
  • Empathy: A deep understanding of user psychology and a genuine desire to help other software engineering teams achieve greatness.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, essential for a product that interacts with millions of technical leaders.
  • Grit: A high degree of resilience and a preference for tackling the "hard option" to ensure superior outcomes.
  • Eligibility: Must be a US citizen or hold a valid US work visa.

Technical Preferences (Nice-to-Have)

  • Experience with React + TypeScript (Frontend), Go (Backend), or Python (ML).
  • Passable design sensibilities.
  • Prior interest or experience in engineering productivity and organizational health.

Benefits

  • Compensation: Competitive base salary of $150,000 – $200,000.
  • Equity: Significant founding-member equity stake of 0.10% – 0.25%.
  • Mentorship: Direct collaboration with an MIT-alum CTO and a CEO with a track record of scaling teams from $0 to $30M in ARR.
  • Impact: Real ownership and the ability to shape a generational company from day one.
  • Environment: A small, intense, and highly collaborative team culture based in San Francisco, CA.

Interview Process

  1. Introductory Call: A 15-minute initial screen.
  2. Assessment: A take-home technical assignment.
  3. Technical Deep-Dive: One-hour technical interview with the CTO.
  4. Executive/On-site Interview: One-hour interview with the CEO, including a team lunch.
  5. Work Trial: A 3-5 day paid work trial to ensure mutual alignment.
